      Shout Outs for February 2024

These are some of the amazing organizations we have been meeting with in recent weeks to discuss our work on Biografika to address invisibility on the internet:

Whose Knowledge is a global campaign dedicated to centering the knowledge of minoritized communities -- the majority of the world's population -- on the internet. Confronting the problem that that most online knowledge has been centered in the experiences and perspectives of North American or European narrators, Whose Knowledge collaborates with women, people of color, LGBTQI communities, indigenous peoples, and others from the global South to amplify and represent a more diverse range of knowledge online. We share with Whose Knowledge a vision of a radical transformation of the internet, ensuring that it becomes a space built, defended, and owned by all.

Latimer.ai, founded by John Pasmore, addresses bias in AI models, earning the name "Black GPT" from People Of Color In Tech (POSIT). Named after inventor Lewis Latimer, Latimer LLM fosters a racially inclusive AI environment by deeply integrating cultural and historical perspectives of Black and Brown communities. It utilizes Meta's Llama-2 GPT foundation, augmented with data on real-world cultural documentation, including historical events, oral traditional stories, literature, and current events related to communities of color. Latimer employs retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to enhance accuracy and avoid misinformation, ensuring responses are relevant and in natural language. With features akin to ChatGPT, Latimer.ai offers a unique platform for improving AI user experiences while combatting bias.

Katapult Future Fest. We are thrilled to be participating in Katapult Future Fest (KFF) 2024 (https://katapultfuturefest.com/). KFF unites participants from 40+ nationalities, comprising impact investors, tech entrepreneurs, and leaders from business, the arts, and culture. It leverages varied perspectives to challenge assumptions and foster impactful discussions, transcending traditional networking to cultivate enduring relationships. W are looking forward to being surrounded by such a vibrant event and so many thoughtful interesting people from all over the world to think about collaboration, channeling capital, talent, and innovation towards sustainability and positive change. Over the years, KFF has convened hundreds of voices from diverse backgrounds with a commitment to collective action and meaningful impact.
